It aims to promote, between partners unevenly developed, exchanges based on mutual interests. The overall objective is to support programs and microfinance institutions that are strong social values and are committed to a micro-finance with a 'human face'.
Ecidec considers that the loan is only part of a broader approach, incorporating the training of beneficiaries, regular monitoring and taking into account social factors in assessing the impact of loans. Credit is a MEANS, not the END. It is always coupled with training and guidance.
The more specific objective of ECIDEC is to "loosen the stranglehold" that weighs in vulnerable populations, enabling them to emerge from a logic of "survival" based on the very short term, and to register gradually in a logic of "project", with a vision to longer term. The means chosen is access to financial resources and support, knowing that the most vulnerable do not need to be assisted: they simply need to be respected.
In Benin, ECIDEC launched a micro-credit program in 1996 around Porto Novo in urban and rural areas in partnership with the Association Minonkpo which now employs 25 workers.
In Senegal, in partnership with regional councils of Matam and the Region Rhone-Alpes, ECIDEC launched a program to support local initiatives in 2008. Developed in collaboration with three senegalese microfinance institutions in Matam whose "Mutual Savings and Credit BAMTAARE".
